Dairy Cattle were once the main form of Agriculture in the Illawarra  Region. One particular breed of dairy cattle (The Australian Illawarra Shorthorn) was actually developed in this area. There are still some working dairy farms operating in the area, although housing estates are becoming more profitable to local farmers. Students need to have an awareness of the importance of industries that exist in their local area and understand the importance of the dairy industry in Australia.
