Attendance Matters – Lets go surfing!

Congratulations are due. Thirty students have had near perfect attendance this year and are being rewarded with a FREE Learn to Surf day at Wollongong Beach. That’s right- if you have awesome attendance at Dapto High school we will reward you. On Monday the 12th of December we will be surfing.

If you think your attendance has been excellent drop in and see Mr Cattle and he will check your attendance and you could be on your way to the green room (surf talk).

Attendance Matters

Attendance Matters

Congratulations are due over 140 students with 100% attendance during Term 3. Over 40 students have 100% for the year. These students will be receiving merits and certificates for their great attendance. They are also are in the running for our end of year rewards day. Last year 30 students got a free Learn to Surf day and lunch at Chicho’s all for having great attendance. Keep up the effort and the rewards will come.

Attendance letters
I will be sending letters to all parents/carers of students whose attendance is causing concern. Attendance below 85% is a concern. If your child’s attendance is below 80% it means on average your child is having one day off a week. Please feel free to call and discuss your child’s attendance.

Why does Attendance Matter?
Regular attendance not only improves academic results but enables students to develop a sense of belonging to a peer group and assists in building important coping and friendship skills. Confident students are less likely to engage in anti-social behaviour.
Regular attendance relieves stress and makes school easier.
We have lots of support here at Dapto High School to help students, in the form of counsellors, year advisors, the welfare team, senior student mentor, careers advisors etc. If you feel like you need support come and speak to us.

Late is not great
Being on time is important and at Dapto High School we actively encourage all students to be on time. If you are late please make sure a note is supplied to explain why, with a valid reason. If your child is late without a valid reason it will go down as an unjustified partial absence and this will appear on your child’s report.

To be in the draw you must have 100% attendance from celebration assembly to celebration assembly (2 weeks in a row). Good Luck

Punctuality aids learning!

Punctuality aids learning!

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Dapto High School continues striving to improve attendance and lateness. In 2014 our attendance was, for the first time in many years, above state average. Our community can be justifiably proud of this achievement. We are always looking at areas to improve; punctuality has become a focus.

Being punctual is an important part of school and working lives. Dapto High school is encouraging all students to work closely with their family to appreciate the value and positive impact of being on time. Arriving on time not only improves academic results, but enables students to develop a sense of belonging to a peer group and assists in building organisational and communication skills.

Our first bell rings at 8.28 am; all students need be at roll call by 8.32 am when the second bell rings. On site by 8.25 am is our expectation, and leaves a small margin for unexpected delays.

Students arriving after this time will be recorded as a partial absence and this will appear on your child’s school report. If you provide a note with a valid reason it will appear as a justified absence on your child’s report. If you do not provide a note or an invalid reason it will appear as an unjustified absence on your child’s report.

The following table will outline some justifiable and unjustifiable reasons for lateness

Justified reason Unjustified Reason
  • Medical appointment – Name of professional, contact number and time of appointment.
  • Religious ceremony
  • Attending an exceptional or urgent family circumstance (such as funeral)
  • Being sick, or having an infectious disease
  • Personal and/or Family reasons – More information is required
  • Shopping
  • Tired/ slept in
  • Part time work
  • Hair cuts/ studying
  • Baby sitting/ birthdays

Students who are consistently late will be interviewed by the Learning at School Support Officer [L@SSO] and Deputy Principals and if improvements aren’t made, a parent meeting with the Principal will be sought.

If you have any questions/concerns regarding attendance issues please be in touch

Kind Regards

Rugby League at Dapto High in 2015

Rugby League at Dapto High in 2015

Want to play Rugby League in 2015 for Dapto High School?

Mr Creighton, Mr Moore (the younger, good looking one) and myself will be running the Rugby League program at Dapto High in 2015. The last two years we have started training during sport and found this very beneficial to both players and coaches. All students that want to play rugby league for the school must be involved in the program. That is for term 1 in 2015 they must do Rugby League training for sport. This includes all ages from 13’s up to Open’s. If you don’t train you don’t play! – Get your sport selection sheet in now! Check out the models in the new strips – we now have 3 sets of brand new Jersey’s and when the boys sign up for the program they will get shorts and socks.
Yours in the greatest game of all.
