Make-a-wish
The SRC and Ms Mitchell are to be congratulated on the organisation of such a fun, festive 'make-a-wish' day to support young people and families in our community! It was fantastic to see so many students and staff dressed as their favourite characters. The students raised $1000 via donations and a cake stall that was supported by Wollemi, local community groups and parents.

We met at Dapto train station on Tuesday morning, piled into the 7.15am train and headed to Cronulla via Sutherland. From here we walked to the Cronulla Harbour and boarded the ferry to Bundeena. Then the real challenge began. In groups of 4-7 students set of on DAY 1 of the Bundeena to Otford trek. We all grouped up at certain locations to ensure everyone was progressing. A tough day 1 saw the 17kms achieved by all (minus 1 who was ill before the start). All students were pushed from their comfort zone, and some amazing efforts achieved. Students supporting others mentally and physically throughout, carrying other students' equipment, motivating those who had hit the wall mentally, doubling back to carry a second pack to allow relief for those who felt they could not go on. We saw the final 2 kms from Garie to the North Era campsite completed as one big group in the dark by torchlight, reaching the campsite at 9pm.
With camp set up and dinner it was an exhausting day that soon saw all fast asleep.
Rising early at 6.30am to the sound of the ocean the productive action of breakfast and packing up the campsite began. at 7.15am a small group who had given their absolute maximum on Day 1 headed back to Garie to meet Mr Ken Wright who came to their rescue. As Ken and the group headed back to DHS at 8am Mr Horsley and myself headed back to the campsite, as we came over the hill at 8.30am to our surprise we saw the whole group treking across the beach off heading out for the final day. We came down to the campsite to find 4 superstars waiting for us, we quickly finished packing our gear and headed off to catch up. Up over hill 1 for the day we topped up our water from Era SC's water tank, then made the trek to Burning Palms, spotting a few of the wildlife welcoming the morning (wallabies, kookaburras). We met the rest of the group on a break at Burning Palms having just all topped up all their water and we trekked on in our groups. A big 9km day filled again with a boggy muddy track at times, lots of hills and climbing our way up to Otford, spectacular views along the whole coastal track with varying terrain has kept the Hike as challenging as always. Needless to say their will be a few tired and sore bodies over the next few days (mine included).
All agreed they didn't think they would ever make it, but all are so proud of what they achieved. A large group that has become much closer and have a new mental toughness as they achieved feats they thought never possible.
Congratulate the students. I was most impressed with how brilliantly Zac, Jordan, Tristan and Jacob worked as a team. Belinda displayed great selflessness, motivational leadership, mental toughness & physical prowess. Morgan, Talish and Amanda impressed with their resilience. Evan frequently went back and assisted others, carrying 2 packs on many occasions, and Blake, Dylan, Dylan, Sam, Emily who were incredibly supportive to others at the end of Day 2. Boris was a standout as was Blake. All other students had their moments and standout efforts but I should not continue or this will be much longer.
To the champion staff members who never showed weakness in the toughest times; Andrew Horsley, Trish Law, Dave Bateman, and Leanne King - this could not have happened without your support.
We have a great bunch of students and a very supportive staff I feel so proud to tell everyone we passed that we were from Dapto High!
